Genius Minutes

Modeled after Google’s practice of letting their engineers spend 20% of their time working on their own pet projects, Genius Hour is a movement that allows students to explore their own passions during a set period of time during school. Learn how elementary and middle school students shared their first experiences with Genius Hour through online collaboration in a way that integrated numerous ELA Common Core State Standards, cultivated essential 21st century survival skills, and even offered students the option of working in a makerspace environment. Receive specific ideas for Genius Hour and makerspace implementation, including how to help students generate ideas, conduct online research, collaborate with students in other classes, and present their passion or makerspace projects in a variety of digital modes.
